Q: My questions are in regard to your recent septum piercing. I was wondering how much it hurt, if at all, and what you need to do to care for the piercing site.
A: The initial piercing was hardly noticeable. The needle was in and Master had the jewelry popped in and it was over pretty quickly. He said that i shed some tears (which is expected) but there wasn't a drop of blood to be seen. This piercing does take some time to heal, however. i've read anywhere from 6-8 weeks for the initial healing to 6-8 months to be completely "healed". It's been pretty tender but nothing terrible and i would certainly do it over again.... Not that i had a choice the first time, right?? haha!!!
The only thing that i sure wish i could have foreseen is this cold bug!!! This is the worst possible timing for a cold, blowing my nose over and over again has been a bit of a set back, i will tell you that! =p hehe That's one thing you have to be really careful with is blowing your nose at first and making sure your hands are clean each and every time. They caution you not to touch the piercing unless you're cleaning it, once or twice a day. The septum is one of the exceptions to the rule i suppose, when you have to blow your nose, you just have to be careful and cautious.
There are many wonderful after-care sites out there for piercings. i have always done the same thing with all my piercings and i've never had an infection. i clean the piercing twice a day with a saline mix, similar as they describe on that site. i also make sure that i'm really anal about cleaning my work area and my hands. Disinfecting wipes and hand sanitizer, etc. Just don't over-clean the site and if all else fails i use the "litha method", that's my favorite "leave it the hell alone". =) Seriously, if it hurts/gets swollen/whatever, you're probably just messing with it too much!
i am finding that with each piercing, it's getting easier. i know what to expect, i know it's going to sting like a sunofbugger for a second and then once the jewelry is in, it'll be okay. Those needles are sharp and if your piercer is good, you have nothing to worry about, like.... nothing! =) Just be sure you want to deal with people looking at you funny, cause that's a sure thing! hehehe
Thanks so much for the question!!
